Getting Started
System requirements
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit)
- 4 GB RAM or more recommended
- 500 MB free disk space for installation
- Internet connection required for activation and license validation
Install Lintra PDF
- Request a free download from getlintra.com. We will email you the installer link.
- Run the installer and follow the on-screen steps.
- When installation finishes, launch Lintra PDF from the Start menu or desktop shortcut.
Activate your license
On first launch, enter the license key from your purchase confirmation email. Lintra binds the license to your device so you can work offline after activation.
- Per-seat license: Activate on the computer where you will use the product.
- Multi-device license: If you reach your device limit, deactivate an unused device from your account before activating a new one.
Need to move your license to another PC? Deactivate on the old machine first, then activate on the new one with the same key.
The Workspace
Lintra PDF opens documents in a familiar desktop layout. The main areas are:
- Toolbar — Quick access to editing, annotation, signing, and view tools.
- Document pane — The active PDF page.
- Navigation pane — Page thumbnails, bookmarks, and comments (toggle from the left sidebar).
- Properties panel — Document info, security settings, and selected object properties.
- Status bar — Current page, zoom level, and document status.
Open a PDF from the welcome screen, drag a file into the window, or use File > Open. Save your work with File > Save or Save As to create a new copy.
View and Navigate
- Use the Hand tool to scroll and click links. Use Select to pick text, images, or annotations.
- Zoom with the toolbar controls, or press Ctrl + + / Ctrl + −. Choose Fit Page or Fit Width for comfortable reading.
- Jump to a page from the status bar, or click a thumbnail in the navigation pane.
- Open the Bookmarks panel to jump to labeled sections in structured documents.
- Press Ctrl + F to search text in the current document.
Edit PDF Content
Lintra PDF lets you change existing content without returning to the original source file.
- Edit Text — Click text on the page to change wording, font, size, and color. Text reflows within its text box as you type.
- Images — Add, replace, resize, or delete images on a page.
- Links and bookmarks — Insert hyperlinks and manage bookmarks for easier navigation.
Select an object to adjust its appearance in the properties panel on the right.
Annotate and Review
Mark up PDFs the same way you would on paper — comments stay organized and exportable for review workflows.
- Highlight, underline, and strikethrough — Select text, then choose a markup tool.
- Comments and callouts — Add sticky notes and text boxes for feedback.
- Drawing tools — Use pen, shapes, and stamps for visual markup.
- Comment list — Open the Comments panel to browse, reply to, and filter all annotations in the file.
Organize Pages
Rearrange documents without leaving Lintra PDF:
- Insert, delete, rotate, or extract pages
- Merge multiple PDFs into one file
- Split a PDF into separate documents
- Drag page thumbnails in the navigation pane to reorder pages
- Add headers, footers, or watermarks across a page range
Convert and Export
Turn PDFs into editable Office files or other formats:
- PDF to Word, Excel, or PowerPoint — Preserve layout and tables where possible for further editing.
- Export to image — Save pages as PNG or JPEG.
- Create PDF — Combine supported files, print to PDF from any application, or create a PDF from a blank page.
Use File > Save As and pick the output format, or open the Convert tools from the ribbon.
Forms and Signing
- Fill forms — Click fields with the Hand tool to enter text, select options, and check boxes in interactive PDF forms.
- Sign documents— Create a saved signature and place it on the page. Use Fill & Sign for quick ink-style signatures on non-interactive forms.
- Reset or clear — Clear form entries before submitting or sharing a copy.
Protect PDFs
Control who can open a file and what they can do with it:
- Password protection — Set an open password and optional permissions password to restrict printing, copying, or editing.
- Security properties — View current encryption and permissions under File > Properties > Security.
- Redaction — Permanently remove sensitive text or areas before sharing. Always keep a backup before applying redactions.
OCR Scanned Documents
Image-based or scanned PDFs are not searchable until you run OCR (Optical Character Recognition).
- Open the scanned PDF.
- Choose OCR or Recognize Text from the Convert or Tools menu.
- Select the page range and language, then run recognition.
- After OCR completes, you can search, select, and copy text in the document.
Compress and Optimize
Reduce file size before emailing or archiving:
- Use PDF Optimizer or Compress to lower image resolution and remove redundant data.
- Optimize scanned PDFs separately when file size is driven by page images.
- Save a copy with Save As so the original file stays unchanged.
